I am in Deal, very close to Dover and therefore very close to the boat back home. So, it could well be that I am in the Netherlands for Xmas depending on what the next destination will be that I get send to.
What to tell about Deal. It has a beach which is the constant factor in my travels so far.
Maybe I should make a beach guide.
There are two castles here in Deal. One of them was owned by William Pitt the Younger who lived here with his niece Lady Hester Stanhope. She acted as his society hostess and was responsible for much of the original layout of the gardens.
After his death she went on to become the most famous woman traveller of the age. Sometimes dressed as a man, she travelled in the middle east and even crossed the Syrian desert.
Good inspiration for the female virtual traveler I am.
I am now in a house on Quern Road. It has a terrace with a nice place to sit and a good view. Too bad it is too cold to sit outside. I am pondering about my day on Aruba and I am longing for the sun. I look at the little Buddha in the garden hoping it is a sign.
It is not a big house I am in, but it is very cozy. The main color in this house is red. Sarah is my host and she is a hypnotherapist. I am working with her to quit smoking, she is very good.(http://www.begreat.co.uk)
She has a big dog that happens to like me so we hang out together when Sarah on her way to help people. He likes cats too, which is a good thing because there are a lot of them here. There is a hotel here that is called The Rattling Cat it is said to get its name from the fact the owner kept many cats with pieces of bone attached to their collars. When strangers appeared in the area the cats would run home and the rattling of their collars would alert everyone that there might be Excise men in the area.
The fun thing about this house is that it has a secret tunnel. The town of Deal used to be a smugglers paradise and there are a lot of old tunnels and secret hiding places that were used by these smugglers.
Right under the little bench on the terrace is a secret hatch I will go and explore tomorrow!
Thank you Sarah for letting me stay.
